Shelley Finkel, manager of former WBC world champion Deontay Wilder, has teased that the American heavyweight might soon be battling it out with Anthony Joshua in Saudi Arabia. After securing a swift victory against Robert Helenius last October, Wilder is on the hunt for his next opponent.

The two fighters were in talks to face each other in Las Vegas back in 2019, with Wilder’s team offering £40m ($50m). However, negotiations were called off by Joshua’s promoter Eddie Hearn, who failed to see evidence of the prize. Both men held world title belts at the time, with Joshua boasting the IBF, WBO, and WBA, while Wilder was the WBC world champion.

Now, with both fighters seeking to rebuild their careers following losses, the potential for a match-up has resurfaced. Reports link Joshua and Wilder to a highly lucrative and high-profile card in Saudi Arabia, with Hearn even suggesting that the £323m event could see the two heavyweights go head-to-head on the same night as Tyson Fury vs Oleksandr Usyk.
