The Toffees have made the first move in the battle to sign the 24-year-old, who has been replaced as Saints captain after telling the club he would not extend his contract beyond 2021. AFP or licensors Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg is wanted by both Everton and Spurs this summer Spurs are also keen on Hojbjerg and it is understood his preference is to join Jose Mourinho’s side. The north London club have asked Southampton about a potential swap deal involving Kyle Walker-Peters but have yet to make a formal bid. Walker-Peters has spent the entirety of the season on loan with Saints but boss Ralph Hasenhuttl has yet to decide whether he wants to sign him permanently. Hojbjerg made his intentions to leave the south coast clear in June and, after informing the club he would not be signing an extension to keep him beyond the final 12 months of his contract, Hasenhuttl duly stripped him of the captaincy and awarded it to James Ward-Prowse. Everton boss Carlo Ancelotti would not be drawn on the club’s reported interest in Hojbjerg after Thursday’s 1-1 draw with Aston Villa. Ancelotti said: “I don’t want to talk about this because I think it is unfair to talk about a player at a different club in this moment.”,
