A five-storey building in the Government Residential Area of Apapa, Lagos State, reportedly collapsed on Sunday, sparking fresh concerns over the safety of structures in the state.

The incident occurred just 24 hours after the Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, ordered the demolition of three buildings on Banana Island due to infractions.

The building in question was under construction and collapsed following a thunder strike.

Officials from the Lagos State Building Control Agency (LASBCA) have sealed the building, and thankfully, no casualties were recorded.

However, this is not the first time such an incident has occurred in the state. Only ten days earlier, a seven-storey building had collapsed in the Banana Island area of Lagos, and one body was recovered from the rubble.

As concerns grow over the safety of buildings in the state, experts are calling on the government to take urgent steps to prevent such occurrences.
