Former Super Eagles midfielder Emmanuel Ebiede passes away at 47 ~ NewsEdge
Tragedy struck on Friday as former Super Eagles midfielder, Emmanuel Ebiede, died at the age of 47 in Port Harcourt, the Rivers State capital. According to reports, Ebiede suffered from Hepatomegaly, which led to his untimely death at 4 pm at the Rivers State University Teaching Hospital.
Ebiede, who is survived by his wife and three children – two in Nigeria and one in Holland – was a member of the Flying Eagles squad at the African Youth Championship in 1995. He went on to play for the Super Eagles, earning two caps and scoring one goal.
Ebiede started his professional career with Sharks of Port Harcourt before joining Belgian First Division side, SC Eendracht Aalst, in 1995. He moved to SC Heerenveen in the Dutch Eredivisie in 1997, followed by spells in the United Arab Emirates (1999-2004) and Israel (2006-2008). He returned home to play for Bayelsa United and Sharks before retiring in 2011.
