Brentford face Fulham for Premier League place It’s considered the richest match in football given what it is worth to the winner. But how much would the victor actually bank? Sports financial analysts Deloitte have done the maths and the money on the table is pretty staggering. They say promotion will mean an increase in revenue of at least £135million over the next three seasons for the triumphant club. That could rise to £265m over a five-year period if they avoid relegation in their first season in the Premier League. Brentford vs Fulham LIVE: Build-up, team news and exclusive coverage of Championship play-off final at Wembley Dan Jones, partner and head of the Sports Business Group at Deloitte, commented: “This season’s Championship has been temporarily interrupted by the COVID-19 pandemic, however as the season comes to a close, all eyes will be on Wembley in what still remains world football’s biggest financial, winner-takes-all, prize match. “Despite the disruption to the season, the league has remained extremely competitive at the top-end of the table, and yet again the play-off semi-finals have provided supporters and neutral football fans with excellent entertainment.” Brentford came from behind to beat Swansea, while Fulham saw off Fulham to set up a Wembley showdown Should Brentford win at Wembley, they would earn significantly more than Fulham, due to the fact they do not currently receive Premier League parachute payments. Brentford stand to see an uplift in revenue of at least £160m over three years. Fulham are currently in receipt of parachute payments and will therefore forgo any future payments upon promotion. But they would still bank at least £135m across the next three seasons if they are victorious. The successfully promoted club’s revenue figure could rise to a whopping £265m over five years if they avoid relegation in their first season back in the Premier League. Aston Villa won last year’s Championship play-off final as they beat Derby County 2-1. The victory enabled the club to spend £118m in the summer transfer window and they narrowly avoided relegation back to the Championship last month. GETTY The Championship play-off final is the richest match in world football Tim Bridge, director in Deloitte’s Sports Business Group, added: “The financial prize for Brentford or Fulham, as well as Leeds United and West Bromwich Albion, is likely to be in excess of £265m if they survive their first season in the Premier League. “Furthermore, given the recent impact of COVID-19, it is likely that the financial impact of promotion will be better received than ever before. “The increased revenue provides these clubs with the platform from which they can develop on and off the pitch. “Promotion to the Premier League provides clubs with the financial resources to make strategic investments. “While this typically includes increased expenditure in on-pitch playing talent, it still remains important that promoted clubs are committed to their longer-term financial responsibility.” The Championship play-off final is LIVE on talkSPORT on Tuesday, kick off 7.45pm,
