Lagos-Ibadan Expressway Reopening Delayed as Final Phase of Reconstruction Nears Completion ~ NewsEdge
The Lagos-Ibadan Expressway, was set to reopen on April 30 after extensive reconstruction work. However, the Federal Government has announced a delay in the reopening due to heavy traffic between the toll gate and Kara Bridge.
The Minister of Works and Housing, Babatunde Fashola, confirmed that the final phase of the reconstruction work on the heavily built-up stretch was nearing completion, but that a combination of factors had made it impossible to meet the deadline.
Despite the delay, Fashola praised the patience of motorists and appealed for continued understanding as the project approached its conclusion. He emphasized that the reconstruction work was necessary to improve road safety and reduce travel time on the expressway.
The Federal Controller of Works, Lagos, Umar Bakare, confirmed that all concrete barriers causing obstructions had been removed, allowing traffic to move freely. However, he urged motorists to exercise caution and adhere to traffic rules while driving on the expressway.
The Lagos-Ibadan Expressway is a major artery for commuters and commercial vehicles traveling between Lagos and other parts of Nigeria.
