The demolition of 13 residential buildings in the Ajao Estate area of Lagos State has caused concern among residents. The state authorities have cited illegal occupation and construction along pipelines as reasons for the demolition. The buildings were also found to be in close proximity to the Murtala International Airport, which posed a potential threat to aviation safety.

The General Manager of the Lagos State Building Control Agency (LASBCA), Gbolahan Oki, explained that the buildings lacked required approvals and were situated around restricted areas. Some were even located on aviation fuel pipelines. Oki expressed concern about the possibility of a fire outbreak from the pipeline in the future, which could result in loss of lives and properties.
The builders responsible for the construction also lacked the necessary documents and approvals for construction in that area. The situation was described as a disaster waiting to happen, and the state authorities took action to prevent any potential harm.
