Lagos State Government to Charge Driver Involved in Train Collision with Manslaughter ~ NewsEdge
The Lagos State Government has announced its plan to charge the driver of the staff bus involved in a collision with a train, Oluwaseun Osinbajo, with manslaughter. The collision occurred on March 9 at the PWD railway crossing in Ikeja, resulting in the death of six people and leaving 96 others injured and hospitalized across government hospitals in the state.
After investigation, the findings were forwarded to the Directorate of Public Prosecutions, which disclosed a prima facie case of manslaughter and grievous body harm against the driver of the staff bus. Osinbajo will face six counts of manslaughter and 10 counts of grievous body harm, contrary to Sections 224 and 245 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.
However, Osinbajo’s arraignment before the High Court of Lagos State will be delayed until he is fully fit to stand trial, having sustained serious injuries during the accident. The driver was immediately apprehended and handed over to the police for investigation and possible prosecution by the state.
This move by the Lagos State Government serves as a warning to all drivers to be more cautious and responsible while driving, especially when conveying passengers. The government is committed to ensuring that justice is served for the victims of the accident and their families.
