Will there be a season 5 of My Hero Academia?

It’s good news for fans of My Hero Academia, season 5 of the hit anime series has been officially confirmed to be in production. The announcement about renewal was made back in April 2020 in the 18th issue of Weekly Shōnen Jump, but of course, we also had that teaser at the end of the season 4 finale.

Whilst an official confirmation is welcomed, not many fans of the anime will be too surprised by My Hero Academia’s renewal. The decision on whether or not an anime will return is usually based on two things: popularity and source material.

Thankfully, the series remains incredibly popular around the world, scoring 90% on Rotten Tomatoes, 8.19 on MyAnimeList and 8.5/10 on IMDB, and there is plenty of source material left to adapt.

An official release date for My Hero Academia season 5 has not yet been revealed, but the anime is rumoured to return in spring 2021.

This rumour started with several well-known ‘leakers’, but even the official Weekly Shōnen Jump Twitter page is jumping on the bandwagon: tweeting the rumour last night, September 30th, indicating there may be some validity to it.

Whilst you should still always consider unconfirmed rumours with a pinch of salt, spring 2021 does fit the typical release schedule for My Hero Academia and this was the premiere window that many fans predicted back when season 4 concluded.
