Nigerian Musician, Portable Granted Bail After Assaulting Police Officer and Others ~ NewsEdge
Popular Nigerian musician, Habeeb Okikiola, who is famously known as Portable, has been granted bail by a high court in Ifo, Ogun State, after his arrest on Friday, March 31, 2023, for allegedly assaulting a police officer at his bar.
According to reports, the singer was engaged in a scuffle with police officers, during which one of them was injured, leading to his arrest and subsequent arraignment in court on Monday.
Portable was granted bail in the sum of N300,000 and was required to provide two sureties with landed properties within the court vicinity.
The charges against him included inflicting physical injury on a police officer and resisting arrest.
Magistrate A.S Shoneye granted the musician bail, stating that the offenses were bailable, and he was transferred to the Ilaro correctional center pending the meeting of his bail requirements.
The case has been adjourned till April 26 for the commencement of trial.
This incident has caused concern among fans and the public, as Portable’s alleged actions have sparked a debate about the treatment of law enforcement officials and the responsibilities of public figures.
