Oyo State Court remands minors for gang-raping mentally unstable schoolmate ~ NewsEdge

Four students of Eleyele Secondary School in Ibadan have been remanded by the Family Court, Iyaganku, Oyo State for allegedly gang-raping and defiling a 16-year-old schoolmate who was mentally unstable.

The accused are charged with conspiracy and unlawful sexual intercourse, and are to be remanded at Abolongo Correctional Centre in Oyo, with the possibility of being sent to the Juvenile Correctional facility at Ijokodo, Ibadan.

The Chief Magistrate, Sumbo Adetuyibi, adjourned the case till May 11 for mentioning as she refused to take their plea due to lack of jurisdiction.

According to the police prosecutor, Inspector Folake Ewe, the minors committed the offence between January and March 15, 2023, by allegedly conspiring to defile a 16-year-old female student who was mentally challenged, contravening the provisions of Section 516 of the Criminal Code and Section 34 of the Oyo State Child Rights Law 2006.
