PDP House of Assembly Member-Elect Arrested Over Alleged Complicity in Sagamu Mayhem ~ NewsEdge
Operatives of the Department of Security Service have arrested Oluwadamilare Bello, an elected member of the Ogun State House of Assembly representing Sagamu constituency 1, over his alleged involvement in the Sagamu mayhem.
The incident occurred during a protest against naira scarcity in February 2023, during which several banks and public infrastructures were vandalized.
Bello, a Peoples Democratic Party candidate, is suspected of masterminding the violence and had turned down previous invitations by the DSS. However, he was apprehended on March 21, 2023, and is being investigated for crimes related to economic sabotage, national security, arson, and disturbing the public peace.
The arrest is not politically motivated, according to a source in the DSS.
Meanwhile, Oladipupo Adebutu, the PDP governorship candidate in Ogun State, reportedly visited the DSS office to mend fences and clear misconceptions about the service after his party held a protest at the Independent National Electoral Commission office in Abeokuta.
Three different delegations led by party chieftains also visited the command to address the issue.
