In a dramatic gun battle, police in the Ikorodu area of Lagos State engaged suspected kidnappers in a fierce shootout that left one of the kidnappers dead. During the operation, the police were able to rescue two victims who had been held captive by the kidnappers since March 26.
The kidnappers had demanded a ransom of N20 million, but negotiations with the victims’ families brought the figure down to N3 million. However, when the kidnappers saw that the police were accompanying the families to the agreed location for the ransom payment, they opened fire.
The police returned fire, resulting in the death of one of the kidnappers. The other members of the gang managed to flee. The police were able to rescue the two victims and have urged members of the public to come forward with any information that could lead to the arrest of the remaining suspects.
The Lagos State Police Command has praised the bravery of its officers in the operation, which was a success due to the timely information provided by the victims’ families. The police have also assured residents of the state of their commitment to ensuring the safety of citizens and the swift apprehension of criminals.
